Week 5-Introduction


Portable power supply 



             Portable power supply has been so important in these fast growing technologies and economic world. People were able to easily carry it all around to power up their equipment and device. For those who are doing their own small business at place without wall power supply, they will need to use the portable power supply which are usually be big in size, heavy in weight, and fixed with wheels to make it portable. For electronics devices that being produced vastly, it operates with battery that will eventually finish and need to be recharged. To charge these devices on the go when the battery finished, a light portable power supply is needed. There is some portable power supply to charge these electronic devices on the go, called Power Bank. It is similar with rechargeable battery, but it is lighter, has higher capacity, and can charge electronic device battery to full capacity for three to four times. The Power Bank itself needs to be recharged using wall socket or USB charger when out of charge.

                  In this final year project, a Fast Charging Portable Power Supply Using Super Capacitor as Charge storage / Battery are to be developed. The function of this device is similar to that of Power Bank. The differences is that it do not need to be plugged into wall socket or USB charger when the charge is out, as it is attached to a dynamo that used to charged it up. Another difference is that Super Capacitor which allows fast charging will be used, where it can be fully charged up in less than an hour compare to Power Bank and other rechargeable battery that needs several hour charging. With this type of portable power supply, there should be no worry of charging up any low power electronic device at anywhere and anytime.

Week 4-Extended Research

In this week, I have done research on hand crank generator that could produce high current. Hand crank generator is also one type of the latest portable power supply. I also survey for functionality and market price of the product. These research gave me idea on how to design my product differently with added functionality. Meantime, I do search for type and size of super capacitor available in the market beside finding low or reasonable price of the component.

Week 3- Project Research for Understanding

After submit project proposal  and discussion with project adviser to confirm about block diagram and system of my project, I started my research in order to do my FYP proposal report. The research I first start to do is on super capacitor, which is one of the main part of my project. From here, I understand difference between normal and super capacitor.

I collect data for my project through internet, which is the easiest source of information and compare it with journals, conference paper, magazine, and reference book whose information are much more reliable. I meet and discuss with my adviser, Sir Samsul and some of my friends who are expert in this field, about the data that I have collected and its reliability.
